How the regulated market works
Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. Two bodies are involved, and they do different jobs. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages the market. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, or AGCO, regulates it.
The legal age in Ontario is 19, online and in land-based casinos alike. At Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto in Etobicoke, entry needs an original government-issued photo ID plus a secondary one. Photos or photocopies of ID are not accepted. The operator's code of conduct says: We ID under 30. Online, the same age of 19 applies on every regulated site.
Checking a site
Go to igamingontario.ca and look up the site by name. iGaming Ontario publishes the list of regulated online gambling sites there. If a site is not on that list, it is not part of Ontario's regulated market. Check the exact address, not just the brand name. That holds however polished the site looks.
OLG.ca is the online site of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the provincial agency. A self-exclusion through BetGuard covers it too. When a page presents itself as the provincial site, compare its address with OLG.ca.
Stepping away
BetGuard, at betguard.ca, lets you exclude yourself from all regulated Ontario gambling sites, OLG.ca included. iGaming Ontario has run it since May 14, 2026. You choose 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term. It does not cover land-based casinos, though.
OLG's My PlayBreak handles the land-based side: self-exclusion from Ontario casinos for 3 or 6 months or 1 to 5 years. You set it up through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, with on-site staff or at a PlaySmart Centre. The term cannot be cancelled early.
